Extremism brutal than terrorism

Extremism is a greater menace in terms of a state’s ability to deal with it, rather than terrorism, extremism can be termed as root of a tree while terrorism its branches, you keep cutting the branches but you will not get desired goals until you put out the roots.
Therefore, extremism is a greater threat to the country than terrorism.
Extremist incidents killed thousands in last few years, which should be a wake-up call for policy makers who need to check the rising intolerance and extremist attitudes in the society. To eliminate extremism we need a certain measure as it can not be eliminated by using the force of gun only.
According to the constitution of the land and speeches of the founder of Pakistan, everyone has an equal right to live in this country whether they are from the Ahmadiya, Christian or Hindu communities but some religious extremists oppose it. Preaching of religious clerics must be checked to tackle the menace of extremism. Incidence of extremism reflects that the social structure of Pakistan is disturbed. Mumtaz Qadri killed former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer after being emotionalized in a Friday sermon by a religious cleric. Public places, educational institutions and even mosques are no longer safe.
To get rid of from the extremism we must consider the roles of school text books in rise of extremism in Pakistan? What is the role of media? What is role of judiciary? Is deteriorating economic condition and unemployment also contributing in it and last but not the least is there foreign involvement? Unless these questions are answered truthfully, the Pakistani nation will suffer. Nations that consistently blame others for their problems usually end up in a miserable failure. Pakistan’s most problems are internal and not external. Real change in a person or in a society comes from within and not by the presence or absence of any external influence. We have always been an emotional, rather than rational nation. The main political parties and also the major religious parties need to sit down together and condemn religious militancy with consensus. The government needs to show serious commitment towards shrinking of trends of extremism and should also adopt serious efforts to bring about moderation in society, as the founders of Pakistan were moderates. A more tolerant society will definitely bring about more cohesiveness and unity in Pakistani’s fragmented society.

PTI marching forward with demos and electoral reforms

The PTI chairman had filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking ‘verification of thumb impressions’ in NA-110 Sialkot, NA-122 Lahore, NA-125 Lahore and NA 154 Lodhran but he expressed his dissatisfaction over the measures taken to investigate the thumb impression of the voters. On this point he seems logical that over a year has been passed but still thumb impression of the four constituencies have not been done properly then when officials would do it? May be after five years or just before the next general elections? Imran Khan has said it repeatedly addressing rallies that “It’s the duty of Chief Justice and Chief Election Commissioner to listen to the hue and cry of people who believe that results of 25 to 30 constituencies were manipulated. “Listen to the people who are on the roads now. They want fingers prints’ verification in the constituencies where polls were rigged on elections day.”
On the one hand, Imran Khan addressing in big cities of the country and on the other workers of the PTI staging protest demonstration near the Red Zone in Islamabad. PTI activists and police had some scuffles as protesters were trying to reach to ECP building.
Government was on the view that May 11 rally in Islamabad would not leave huge impact and it would be one day show and after it things would return to normal but Imran Khan announced that his party would hold massive public rallies in other cities of the country as well. After the successful public rallies in the heart of PML N, Faisalabad and in Sialkot now waves of PTI tsunami ready to hit Bahawalpur latter this month. Despite of the killing heat waves of June people are attending the rallies of PTI in huge numbers, factor of the electricity load shedding also contributing in gathering the people as they perhaps would be thinking its better to go out and attend the rally rather to sit home with no lights.
With the mounting pressure on the government that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif moved to introduce consensus electoral reforms and some constitutional amendments to be formulated by a bipartisan parliamentary committee, and provided an opportunity to every political party to provide its input. It was very pleasing news for the supporters of electoral reforms in the country and PTI has played its role in pressurizing the government to take such initiative. This bill was tabled to Parliament in February 2013 but it was never given a serious thought. Over the past one year, none of the political parties in the present Parliament has bothered to take it up for consideration either. The bill, proposed by the ECP under the then Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, had mainly sought the empowerment of the ECP to hold elections in a free, fair and independent manner. Although PTI has been successful in conducting big public gatherings but party has not taken any solid measure inside the National Assembly to bring neither electoral reforms nor it has tabled any legislation.
Different political parties including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have endorsed the PTI’s demand but they want to address the issue within the Parliament instead of taking to the streets. In the last general elections almost all the political parties were showing reservations for the riggings in the polls. Therefore, all of the parties must be satisfied with the electoral reforms as strong democratic process is hidden in the strong, powerful and independent election commission.
Imran Khan has also demanded not only seeks reformation of the electoral process but has also demanded removal of all members of the present Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which seems a little too much. Although earlier PTI has postponed the public gatherings in Bahawalpur but Imran Khan addressing a press conference after the incident of police brutality in Lahore over the activists of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, announced the continuation of public gatherings and on June 27 PTI would held rally in Bahawalpur.

Time to unite; for stable Pakistan

We as a nation are still in a confused state after sixty-six years. We have no idea what we want either we should negotiate with the terrorists or we should fight with them. The ‘peace talks’ between the TTP and the government failed. As the familiarity of indulging in the dialogue with them has not proven to be dynamic and thus time has come that the brutal lords needs to be engaged in the tongue which they understand Pakistan army with the will of the government has launched a military operation in the North Waziristan. At such a crucial point; we all must support our forces by putting a side all over differences. Not only the political parties but also people from all walks of life must stand united to support fight against terrorism. This is the time to save our country and our people from destruction at the hands of beasts who have already taken over 50,000 lives of our people, injured and ravaged many more lives. Terrorism has caused us the loss of over $ 100 Billion.

As Pakistanis, we should know that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb is actually one of the most important battles to reclaim the lost soul of Pakistan. The PPP, the PTI, the MQM and other political parties have done well by publicly supporting the operation — now it is the turn of the right-wing parties to step forward and play their role in a positive manner and avoid creating confusions in the minds of people. Jamate-e-Islami and JUI F showed their reservations over the military operation but they must also understand it is not the time for political point scoring and Pakistan can not be stable without eradicating the menace of terrorism.  Not only at the domestic level but also at the international front circumstances are changing as due to some obvious reasons considered anti-Pakistan regime is in power in India and if Abdulah Adbullah becomes the next President of Afghanistan then situation could have been tough for Pakistan. Government also should not put a deaf ear to the logical demands of Tahir-ul-Qadri and Imran Khan to bring electoral reforms which would ultimately strength the democracy. The time has come for all politicians to unite for the integrity of Pakistan and stop the blame game on each other. The political parties should realise their national responsibility and desist from creating confusion which results in weakening the moral of the forces fighting against terrorists. Moreover, no one, particularly not any of the political leaders, should undermine the sacrifices of our soldiers, policemen, paramilitary forces and civilians. This is the time for unity and patient cooperation. Let’s be patient with those who are protecting us and also with one another during this tough time.
